Get involved

We are one of the largest and busiest hospital trusts in the country, and an exciting place to be part of. Check out the following options for all the different ways you can be involved.

  1. Join our Foundation Trust

London bombing survivor Gill Hicks becoming an FT memberBeing a Foundation Trust allows us to involve staff, patients and our local community more closely in the way we run our hospitals. Our Foundation Trust members help us make decisions and allow us to be more responsive to local needs and wishes.

Being a member entitles you to attend meetings and seminars, stand for election to the Council of Governors, and help shape the future of Guy's and St Thomas'.

  1. Stand for election to the Council of Governors

If you're already a member of our Foundation Trust you can stand for election to the Council of Governors. The Council is made up of members of the public, patients, staff members and other stakeholders, including local councillors.

The council is a very important part of the Trust and ensures that the voice of the public, patients and staff is heard on important issues facing the Trust.

  1. Join the patient information readers' group

patient information leafletsGuy's and St Thomas' has a dedicated team that produces a range of patient information – including leaflets about operations and recovery, tests and treatment, medical conditions and hospital services.

To make sure our leaflets meet your needs, our patient information readers' group checks draft versions of new leaflets and gives us their feedback. If you would like to be involved, please contact Jaimella Espley on 020 7188 1550 or email jaimella.espley@gstt.nhs.uk.

  1. How you can support Guy's and St Thomas'

Former GSTT employee Richard French abseiling down Guy's TowerGuy's and St Thomas' Charity makes a vital contribution towards improving patient care at our hospitals, funding the development of new services, improvements to the hospital environment, and supporting potentially life-saving research.

The work of the Charity would not be possible without the donations and legacies it receives each year from patients, their families, friends and the wider community.

You can support us in a number of different ways - by abseiling down Guy's tower, skydiving, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, running the London marathon or arranging your own fundraising event.

If you'd like to make a donation or get involved in raising much needed funds for our hospitals, our Charity's fundraising team would like to hear from you. Please contact Cheryl Medcalf on 020 7188 7733 or email cheryl.medcalf@gsttcharity.org.uk.

  1. Work at the TrustWinston Prosper, patient transport driver

The Trust currently employs over 10,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical jobs. Located in the heart of the capital, we serve a diverse population which is reflected in the staff we employ.

No matter what your background, there is almost certainly a role at Guy's and St Thomas' that would suit you, and the benefits are endless – from discounts at local and national organisations, to career development and social clubs.

A list of current vacancies can be found under our working for the Trust pages.

  1. Join the Friends of Guy's and the Friends of St Thomas'

The Friends are voluntary organisations which raise money in order to help provide extra amenities, comforts and special equipment. Patients and their welfare are of the highest importance and funds are used only for the benefit of patients at the hospital.

Money is raised in a number of ways including a Christmas market, summer draw, book sales, markets and the Friends' Shop.

  1. Volunteer at the Trust

Volunteers help in various ways to provide a wide range of extra services, which improve the quality of life in hospital for patients and complement the work of paid staff. Volunteers at the hospital assist in everything from greeting people on arrival, to general filing, tending to flowers, providing library books and magazines, and dealing with simple queries.

  1. Donate old clothing

ambulanceoutsidestthomas_150x100The Accident and Emergency department at St Thomas' is always looking for unwanted clothes. Washed clothing is urgently needed for patients admitted who are either homeless, have had their own clothes cut off, or who have been brought to the department in their nightwear.

These patients often have no-one to bring in their own clothing from home, so the donated clothing helps make sure that everyone leaves the hospital with dignity.
