Training for GPs

Using topic-specific one-day courses and a week-long generic course, the GP series below provides update opportunities for conditions that commonly require referral advice. Please note that discounts for multiple bookings are available. 

GP update - ENT/ophthalmology

Date: Monday 7 June 2010

Course director: Mr David Roberts, consultant ENT surgeon and Mr Danny Morrison, consultant ophthalmic surgeon
Fee: £125

The first half of this course will give practical guidance on the examination and management of common ophthalmic problems. The second half will provide an update in current ideas in primary care management of common ENT conditions. It will focus on surgical management of ENT pathologies to indicate the direction of future developments.

The programme will include:

  • otitis externa
  • glue ear in children
  • the management of rhinitis and sinusitis
  • voice disorders
  • practical eye examination without fancy equipment!
  • paediatric ophthalmology – watery eyes and squints
  • glaucoma management and drops/surgery update
  • laser eye surgery – everything you ever wanted to ask
  • age-related macular degeneration: what can you say to patients?
  • update on cataract surgery – can it get any better?

GP update - hot topics in clinical practice

Hot topics in clinical practice aims to provide the general practitioner with a concise overview of current practice for treatment and management of common referrals. This four and a half day long course will cover a range of conditions treated by the Trust's specialists including:

  • gastroenterology
  • women's health
  • dermatology
  • diabetes
  • chronic kidney disease
